New Illuminations Dessert Party

Image

The NEW Illuminations Dessert Party, is now taking reservations. The dessert party, itself, will debut on Saturday, March 15th.  Three times per week guests will have the opportunity to participate in the party and view Illuminations from a premium viewing area, World Showplace Plaza. For those of you unfamiliar with this location, you can find it on the Future World side at the base of World Showcase Lagoon. The party will be held on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The party is standing room only, there are no tables or chairs. The menu will feature special treats from around World Showcase….including…wait for it…..the American “Little Cronis” (a croissant/doughnut). Ice Cream Novelties will also be served. The real treat for many veterans of it’s Magic Kingdom sister party, the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party, however, just might be the Sparkling Wine. The price tag is hefty compared to the Tomorrowland Dessert Party at $49.99 per adult and $29.99 per child (ages 3-9). Unlike Tomorowland Dessert Party, Illuminations Dessert Party will have staff serving the desserts and sparkling wine. ID is required, tax and gratuity are included. The party will begin allowing guests to check-in at 7:45pm and will begin at 8pm, which is one hour prior to fireworks (if fireworks are scheduled at a different time, which rarely happens at Epcot, then the party start time is one hour prior to the scheduled fireworks show). The party will conclude as Illuminations does, around 9:15-9:20 PM, and guests should clear the area by 9:30pm. For more information on the new Illuminations Dessert Party and other unique Walt Disney World dining and tour opportunities or to book your next Walt Disney World vacation, call Jenn Harris at 540-293-5132 or email jenn@justadreamawaytravel.com

One More Disney Day

The Disney geek in me is coming out like never before. When I first heard the news that guests could arrive at the Magic Kingdom at 6am on February 29, 2012 (Leap Day) and stay until 6am the following day, I thought “Wow, that’s neat.” Then I began thinking how nice it would be to open the park at 6am, hit a few rides, wander back to the room for a break, do a little park hopping and return to the Magic Kingdom after midnight. But, I had it all wrong.

What a die hard Disney fan needs to do is open that magical bad boy up at 6am and go, go, go all day. What would I do with 24 hours straight in the Magic Kingdom? I could do every attraction. How many times? What could I discover that I’d never done or seen before? Will there be organized activities? Will there be fanfare for those who make it for the entire 24 hours? This 24 hours has boundless possibilities.

Staying awake will be challenging, even for those of us familiar with a 3am EMH closing. My touring plan for the day begins with “Head to lockers, store energy drinks.” Many will begin this challenge and  a few may crawl to the buses in those early morning hours. I know many will only aspire to be there for some of the day. I, for one, say “bring it!” What do you say?

ONE MORE DISNEY DAY flier

Wednesdays are for Wishes

A little something about Wishes at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park:

Wishes Nighttime Spectacular is the biggest, brightest fireworks extravaganza in Magic Kingdom theme park history.

Jiminy Cricket is your host, guiding Pinocchio, Cinderella, Ariel, Peter Pan and other beloved Disney Characters through a fantastic tale told amongst the stars.

A magnificent musical score synchs with the fireworks for a stunning aural and visual experience, featuring unique pyrotechnics and special effects.

Discover that wishes do come true when you experience Wishes Nighttime Spectacular, a story so big only the sky can hold it!

Additional Information

Fireworks schedules vary by season. See the Times Guide for exact dates and times. Times Guides are available at the Park entrance, Guest Relations and most merchandise locations.

The show can be viewed throughout the Park, but to see Tinker Bell flying in the sky, a view from the front of Cinderella Castle is recommended.

What are your Disney Wishes made of? Join me on upcoming Wednesdays as I explore this most central Disney theme.

The Kitchen Sink

Who hasn’t heard the idiom, “taking everything, but the kitchen sink?” Some of us would throw that in if we could, because we just don’t know where to begin (or end). Packing for a Walt Disney World vacation can be overwhelming.

If you aren’t organized, you just might be tempted to pack a dozen things which never even make it out of the suitcase (you really don’t need 4 pairs of jeans in June) and inevitably you’ll forget something you really can’t live without (like your phone charger). Don’t worry with a good packing list, the only kitchen sink you’ll be worried about is the one waiting for you at Beaches and Cream.

Below is a list of things to get you started on making your packing list (also, many Disney sites have pre-made packing lists available to download):

  • pack the things you use everyday, like toothpaste and contact solution -this may go without saying, but make a list of these things and you won’t forget any of them
  • think about the season, the weather, family photo ops and what attire you will need
  • think about what shoes you will be wearing and be sure they are broken in. I wear Crocs for touring the parks. They are comfortable and don’t get soggy on water rides. I highly recommend a pair!
  • bring a sweatshirt or sweater – the plane, car and some attractions and restaurants can be chilly, even in summer
  • snacks and portable breakfast food -Disney Parks allow outside food to be carried in – you might save a bundle and a lot of heartache by having goldfish crackers, peanuts, raisins, granola bars, etc on hand to stave off the crankies
  • hats and/or sunglasses and sunscreen. Wear it everyday. You are in Florida!
  • a good poncho. NOT the throw away, thin dollar store kind! If you don’t have one, pay the extra cash for a Disney Parks poncho, they are cute, sturdy, can be used year after year. If they tear Disney will replace them -even on future trips!!!
  • phone, camera and ipod chargers and a power strip to plug it all into
  • an external battery for your iphone or droid or take your charger to the parks – I hear there are plenty of outlets but I could never stop long enough to use one
  • if you are overheated easily and worried about the hot summer weather, I hear good things about Frogg Togg Chilly Pads. Personally, we prefer cooling off in the water rides and letting the little ones splash in the fountains
  • Tide Pen or Shout Wipes – even adults and big kids can end up with a little melted Mickey bar on their t-shirt. You might not want to document the mishap in all of your photopass pics.
  • Wet wipes -we also find that carrying a damp Mickey Mouse washcloth in a plastic baggie does the trick for us.
  • Ziplock bags in different sizes –  for leftover snacks, damp things and to help organize all the maps and small trinkets that find their way into your backpack
  • Penny Pressing Supplies like M&M tubes, sandwich bags, penny press books and plenty of pennies and quarters
  • Autograph supplies. Some like to make these at home, but I find the small books and giant pens sold in the parks are just perfect
  • Pin trading supplies: lanyard and pins
  • Along with any medicines you take on a regular basis, don’t forget medicines you might need for allergies, colds, fevers, aches and pains or tummy aches. The nurses in each park are wonderful and also have some medications on hand. My son got a terrible headache at DHS once and they gave him medicine and a cool place to take a little rest and he was as good as new, no charge!
  • If you travel to Disney World often, bring a few special souvenirs from past trips. When your 5 year old sees all the other boys running around Adventureland with a pirate sword, he will want one too, even if he has one at home from last year’s trip… trust me.

Leap of Faith Into the World of Disney

Our 1st trip to Disney World was my son’s first trip anywhere and we were alone. All alone. To boot we were running late to the airport which was 3 hours from home. We missed the flight, spent the afternoon wandering the airport (and wondering what I had gotten us into). But Magic was already finding us. The airline gave us food cards, phone cards and booked us in first class seats on the next outgoing flight. My 4 year old thought this was just part of our adventure.

By the time we arrived at MCO we were both exhausted and I had a migraine on it’s way. We rode the mini-monorail, fought our way past colorful shops, found the Mears counter (this was before the wonderful days of Disney’s Magical Express) and Noah got his first glimpse of palm trees.

He was getting more wired by the minute. He could hardly contain himself when he entered the doors of Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort. This was, indeed, a 4 year old boy’s dream come true. All of my doubts about travelling alone and spending “that kind of money” were dissolving by the second.

We found our room on the football field. I took some medicine for the migraine. We took a quick dip in a pool shaped like a baseball diamond. Do I need to mention, again, how this was a 4 year old boy’s dream come true? My son fell asleep with Mickey by his side and dreams of Star Wars Weekends in his head.

That was the beginning of a an 8 year journey that would take us again and again to that magical, wonderful place where boy’s dreams come true in little ways everyday. That first visit to Disney World feels millions of years away and yet, I see it, hear it and feel it like it was yesterday.

Today it reminds me that leaps of faith can be the foundation of a life of magic and wonder. Some days, I need the reminder more than others. But, today is a good day. Because, today, I start a new journey. One that will allow me to help share the magic and wonder of Walt Disney World with other families. Today I join the ranks of dream makers, and wish builders. Today, I become a Disney Travel Planner.
